Christians Told to Get Out of San Francisco
March 27, 2006
This is what a San Francisco Assemblyman said about Christians who preach and try to lead people to Christ:
“(T)hey’re loud, they’re obnoxious, they’re disgusting, and they should get out of San Francisco.”
I find this interesting because of the fact that so many claim that San Francisco is a melting pot and so diverse. In the interests of keeping it diverse, apparently it’s okay to exclude those who think different.
One can only imagine what the political fallout would be if a Christian councilman in some southern state were to say that gay rights activists were, “loud, obnoxious, disgusting, and they should get back to San Francisco.” The double standards are becoming more and more evident.
Yearning for Wealth
March 18, 2006
The Deseret Morning News has an interesting article on the quest for material wealth. I wonder how many of us suffer from the need to have “things” to satisfy us. I know that I do it sometimes. Do you?
Alternative Minimum Tax

The AMT sucks and it’s probably going to get me next year. Here’s something the IRS is providing to let us know if we should be paying the AMT this year.
Changes Considered
March 8, 2006
I’m trying to figure out where I want to be one year from now. Do I want to still be working here at a good, albeit stressful, job doing the same thing that I’ve been doing for years? Or, would I rather be somewhere else doing something else? When we sell our home this fall, we need to figure out what we’re going to do for a residence, and some of the options are as follows:
- Stay in our current house and at the current job.
- Sell the current house and build again, all the while staying at the current job.
- Sell the current house and build again, but also buy a lot in a different state to prepare for an eventual move (most likely to Utah) and change of employer.
- Sell the current home and move to a different state now.
I’m kind of leaning toward option 3. I’d love to go to college, and we’re thinking that I can keep my job here for another 12 months or so, before moving to a place where we can buy a home really inexpensively and where I can go to college. There are a lot of things to consider and I’m sure that we’ll put a lot of planning into whatever it is that we decide to do. The big question to answer, though, is, “What do we want to do?”
Does anybody out there have any idea how difficult it will be starting college 14 years after graduating from high school? Man, that has me scared.
Housework and Trim
March 8, 2006
I’ve been so busy lately working on something very fun. I’ve found that I really like working on interior trim. In the master bedroom, I’ve wood-wrapped the two windows and installed wainscot-esque panelling throughout. The window wrapping and the main trim is all hemlock, and the panels are masonite. The only wood I still have to install is the chair railing (I do have one length completed) and baseboard. I’ll get the chair railing up by the end of the week and complete the spackling and sanding. I’ll do two coats of primer on the whole thing, then paint it all the final color of white. I’ve got some photos of the part that has the chair railing on, as I’ve already finished the primer, and they look pretty good. I think I’m doing a pretty good job of this, especially considering that I’m a geeky network administrator and I’m making all of this woodworking stuff up on the fly. Come to think of it, I’m doing a REALLY good job of this, and it’s REALLY fun.
I just remembered that I’ve also been building a handrail on the porch/deck out front. That, too, is very fun. I’d love to be able to spend a bunch of time each week doing this sort of work, whether it be for our own home, or in exchange for money. It would be quite flattering for somebody to see my work and ask me to do something for them. I’d get a big kick out of that.
