I also went to Arches National Park for the first time. Here are some photos:

Stupid Protest

March 23, 2008

When did this become an acceptable form of protest?

damned if you do …

March 20, 2008

Logins

March 17, 2008

So, I was at work the other day and had a funny experience.  I had helped a person with some software installation issue, requiring me to login to her computer with my own username and password.  After I was done, I rebooted her computer.  Later, she called me in a panic because I “had locked her out of her computer.”  I was somewhat confused by her statement so I remotely connected to her computer to see what she was doing.  Since I had been the last person to login to her computer, it had saved my username in the username field.  This is no biggie, as she could just remove my username and type her own in its place.  Uh, nope.  Instead of replacing the username ‘jausborne’ with her own username, she proceeded to try to login using my username and then typing my username once again in the password field.  Uh, that’s not how it works.  For a while now, usernames and passwords have been two different things.  :-)

So, Cubans are now allowed to own computers. Pretty soon they, too, will learn the joys of spam and viruses.

Subprime

March 15, 2008

Wasn’t “subprime” one of the most overused words of 2007?  Anyways, I read this article about the subprime mortgage mess.  I’m glad I didn’t get into that mess.

Well Lit

March 15, 2008

So, I replaced most of the light bulbs in my house last night.  For one thing, I was tired of the really yellow light that was being put out from the regular 60 watt bulbs that were being used.  Second, I know that my kids have a tendency to leave all the lights in the house on for no good reason.  So, I replaced most of them with the new compact fluorescent bulbs, which use only about 20% of the amount of energy as the regular incandescent bulbs.  Instead of the bulbs using 60 watts of power, they’re only using 13.  I’m not much of an environmentalist so my reasoning for doing this may not seem noble to some, but I don’t care.  I figure that it will save me money in the long run.  I’ve saved all of the incandescent bulbs so that I can put them back in place when we move next time (we’re renting our current home).

Oh, and the new bulbs put out a white light instead of the yellow light, which makes it seem a whole lot brighter in the house.

Contraband

March 13, 2008

Be careful what you buy from the other kids in school …

Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student in Connecticut.

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.

We’ll put this on the “Lame List” when I get around to creating one.
