Tales from Memory-land
June 16, 2008
I’m starting a new thing on my blog. I’m going to occasionally write about an event that happened in Long Long Ago time. There really isn’t a particular reason for this, other than to just get it written. Maybe it’ll be a conversation starter for some friends. Maybe my family members will read it and say, “I never knew that!” Maybe my kids will find it in Google’s cache 20 years from now and say, “My dad was an idiot.”
differences
June 16, 2008
Melanie and I were talking about the differences between our two older boys a few days ago when we realized one major contrast. While they both like to read books in bed well after the time they’re supposed to be asleep, they read different things. David likes to read his Calvin and Hobbes books, whereas Byron is constantly getting busted with manuals. Tonight it was the manual for the computer game Starcraft. A few days ago he got caught reading his Cub Scouts manual. It’s just funny to see the differences between two boys who have been raised by the same parents.
the horror of it all
June 16, 2008
I cannot think of any story that I’ve ever read that is more sad than this. What on Earth is wrong with people today!?
funeral
June 14, 2008
I went to the funeral today for my friend/coworker’s daughter. My heart really broke for Roy and Kanda when I saw them standing there next to her casket. I couldn’t believe how beautiful little Brietta looked. The casket was really nice and the whole service was really well done. I was most amazed by how well Roy was able to sing at his own daughter’s funeral. He sang “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and did a wonderful job. His ability to make it through the whole song was astounding.
Russert
June 13, 2008
Tim Russert has passed away. As far as political news correspondents are concerned, he’s one of the few that I actually really liked and looked forward to listening to.

Not for my kids. Not just no, but hell no. See here for why.
9th Circuit Justice
June 11, 2008
Wow. The chief justice of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is into all sorts of nasty things. And now it’s all public.
sad
June 11, 2008
My friend/coworker suffered the loss of his few-weeks-old daughter today. She wasn’t super healthy, but I think this was still surprising to them. It’s got me wondering about what I can do for them.
Happy Birthday to Byron

Today is Byron’s 8th birthday!

What the hey?
June 8, 2008
This dude just jumped out of an airplane without a parachute. That’ll go on the list of things you can only do once in your life.
