tonight’s episode

September 30, 2008

Guess who gets to look forward to surgery?  Yeah, you guessed it.  I am scheduled for surgery on Friday when The Good Doctor Swenson is going to fix my zygomatic bone.  It’s evidently a little out of whack.  I guess that’s what happens when you let a TV whack you in the head.

So, tonight’s episode of Moral of the Story is called “Don’t be stupid.  You just may end up in the hospital.”

frustrated.

September 28, 2008

I’m frustrated by what I perceive to be a lack of real progress that I’m making in my efforts to heal from my accident.  I’m struggling with my vision in my right eye being consistent.  Sometimes I can see really well but other times it just doesn’t focus correctly.  Also, things seem brighter in that eye than in my left (uninjured) one.  I still have a bunch of swelling in the right side of my face, though my black eye is starting to fade (just a little).  The swelling is worse in the mornings and seems to reduce a bit during the day.  Then, the next morning, it’s swollen again.  Below the eye is still really sore, though it’s not the skin that’s sore.  In fact, I can’t feel the skin beneath that eye at all.  It’s completely numb from below the eye and all the way down to my upper lip.  It extends from the middle of my nose to just below my cheekbone.  My gums are also numb from the two front teeth and about halfway back to my back tooth.  It actually feels exactly like I’ve been to the dentist and he’s numbed the whole thing in preparation for a filling.  I visited the dentist on Friday because I’ve noticed a little pain in that back area when I eat.  Nothing obvious shows up on X-rays but it doesn’t mean that it’s not going to be a problem going forward.

The worst part about this whole experience, though, is the headache that came on on Friday night.  It felt like somebody was digging some sort of instrument into my skull and twisting it with every beat of my heart.  Every pulsation of the blood through my veins made my head feel like it was going to explode.  It has finally subsided to a large extent today but I still don’t feel good.

I can’t wait until I’m cleared to drive or do any sort of heavy lifting.  Honestly, I’d really like to go to work tomorrow but I don’t have my doctor’s appointment until Tuesday, so the earliest I can get cleared to go back to work is then.  Hopefully, everything will go well between now and then.

fallen

September 24, 2008

Last night I was trying to lift our old 27″ TV up onto a ledge in our bedroom.  The ledge is about 8 feet high.  I was on the ladder and lifting the TV and had almost gotten the TV up on the ledge.  It was about 4 inches away from being on the ledge when the ladder buckled.  I fell from 8 feet high and landed on the left side of my face.  The TV then fell and landed on the right side of my face and head.  Luckily I was hit by the housing of the TV and not the tube.  It still hit me with enough force to break my cheek bone, specificially the zygomatic arch.  I have a severely swollen eye and my vision is damaged.  It will hopefully get better when the swelling goes down.  My jaw is sore but not broken, and I have a bunch of numbness in my face, from the broken cheek bone to my lips.  This is most likely due to the swelling causing the tissues to clamp down on the nerve.  I received a concussion and lot of bruises and scrapes.  Melanie said that she was surprised that I didn’t break my shoulder or collarbone, as I landed there pretty hard.  I did punch through some drywall with my elbow (I thought it was my head at first but it turned out to not be the case).  My balance is off a little and I’m keeping one eye closed all the time because it’s so swollen and the vision is no good.  All in all, this whole event is pretty painful.

I’ll put this on my list of things to never do again.

We closed on the purchase of our home today.  The sellers will sign papers tomorrow and we should get the keys to the place on Friday.  It looks like we’ll be starting to move over the weekend.

Palin Speaks

September 3, 2008

I’m watching Sarah Palin address the Republican National Convention right now.  She seemed a little nervous at first, for which I don’t blame her.  I was rather impressed with her, overall.  She had a few fun little digs on Obama, which is something that we were definitely expecting.  I didn’t know, though, what else to expect.  She seemed down to Earth and seemed to enjoy her time on stage.  That’s a good thing because she has picked the wrong profession if she doesn’t like speaking in public.

All in all, I think she could have good future and would like to see her do well.
