fallen

September 24, 2008

Last night I was trying to lift our old 27″ TV up onto a ledge in our bedroom.  The ledge is about 8 feet high.  I was on the ladder and lifting the TV and had almost gotten the TV up on the ledge.  It was about 4 inches away from being on the ledge when the ladder buckled.  I fell from 8 feet high and landed on the left side of my face.  The TV then fell and landed on the right side of my face and head.  Luckily I was hit by the housing of the TV and not the tube.  It still hit me with enough force to break my cheek bone, specificially the zygomatic arch.  I have a severely swollen eye and my vision is damaged.  It will hopefully get better when the swelling goes down.  My jaw is sore but not broken, and I have a bunch of numbness in my face, from the broken cheek bone to my lips.  This is most likely due to the swelling causing the tissues to clamp down on the nerve.  I received a concussion and lot of bruises and scrapes.  Melanie said that she was surprised that I didn’t break my shoulder or collarbone, as I landed there pretty hard.  I did punch through some drywall with my elbow (I thought it was my head at first but it turned out to not be the case).  My balance is off a little and I’m keeping one eye closed all the time because it’s so swollen and the vision is no good.  All in all, this whole event is pretty painful.

I’ll put this on my list of things to never do again.

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Man Josh, that looks painful. (and sorry to bring it up if you are managing not to think about it). That whole event was pretty incredible. Hope it heals quickly and you get to use both eyes again soon.

It was good to visit you, Melanie, and the kids last weekend.

    Take care of yourself,
    Kristin

    Holy moley!

I’m glad you survived! A TV hitting your head from 8 feet could have…been worse.

I would say to take it easy and watch some TV, but I can understand if that’s awkward. :^)
