When I’m 6 …
December 14, 2008
This morning I was getting Ryan ready for church. He picked out the cutest sweater vest and button up shirt to wear. When I saw it I immediately remembered David loving that outfit too. I asked Ryan, “Do you know who used to wear that?”.
“No, who mom?”
“David used to wear this to church.”
Then Ryan got really quiet. We finished getting him ready and then he asked me what had been on his mind. “Mom, when I’m 6 do I have to wear Betsy’s clothes?”
I gave him a hug to stifle my laugh and told him he would never have to wear girl clothes. He let out a big sigh accompanied by “oh good,” then was off to play. It may have given Ryan a worry, but I had a great laugh!

New(?) Kids
November 15, 2008
I’m almost embarrassed to say it but my wife and a couple of her friends are going to the New Kids on the Block concert tonight. They scored some free tickets and decided to go. I had no idea they were even still together as a group. Now I kinda wish they weren’t.

Family secrets
November 9, 2008
Just like any other Sunday we were at church today. Betsy and Ryan were in primary, David and Byron were in their respective classes, as were Josh and I. My class ended a couple minutes early so I walked by where Betsy and Ryan were. As I got to the doors I hear my sweet four year olds raspy voice, “my mom has really hairy legs so she has to shave them off.” Oh dear I hope I didn’t heat that right. Unfortunately, upon further investigation I heard it exactly right. Kids say the darndest things, thankfully there were only about 20 adults and 40 kids to witness these words.
finishing
November 9, 2008
Our basement is coming along, finally. The drywall is up and the first coat of mud and tape is done, and we should be able to start doing some finish work and painting this coming weekend. Ugh, this has taken so very long.
Over the last week, I’ve been replacing lightswitches and outlets with decor ones, so they’ll match the outlets and switches that I will be installing downstairs. It’s amazing how dirty the old ones have gotten over the years. I guess it goes along with how filthy the carpet, paint, windows, door handles, and pretty much everything else was when we moved in. Considering how normal and decent the previous owners seemed, I was surprised to find out how they had a complete lack of a clue about cleanliness.
In addition to the basement work and the outlet/switch work that’s in the process of being done, we’re replacing the carpet, linoleum in the kitchen and entry way, door handles (did I mention they’re filthy?), some doors that have holes or are otherwise broken, as well as installing hardwood flooring throughout the kitchen, dining room, front room, entry way, hallway and down the stairs. It’s a lot of work!
First snow!
November 6, 2008
As much as I dread icy windshields, frozen boogers, and blue fingers there is one thing I love about the snow. How much the kids enjoy playing in it. There is nothing better than seeing their wide eyes and rosy cheeks as they throw snow grenades, build forts, and eat delicious snow delicacies. Bring on the cold!
